Staying safe on HeartWise
Every member is verified, but your judgement matters too. These guidelines apply to every relationship type and to LAX-Chat calls.
Verification
Every account gives a full name, at least one original photo and proof of ID. A member of our team checks they match before the account is activated. We do our best with this basic verification, but no check is perfect. Please take care before trusting anyone, and go at your own pace.
Never send money
No genuine member will ask for money, gift cards, bank details or help with a financial emergency. If anyone does, stop replying and report them.
Meet in public
For the first few meetings, choose a busy café, library, market or park in daylight, and tell a friend or family member where you'll be and when. "Plan a safe meet-up" in any conversation helps you do this, and afterwards we'll ask how it went.
A trusted helper
In My profile you can add a son, daughter, friend or carer as a trusted helper. They get a private link showing how your account is coming along, never your messages or matches, and you can remove them at any time.
Group outings
Our small group outings for 3 to 8 verified members always meet in busy public places and are organised by our team. It's a relaxed way to meet people before any one-to-one meeting.
Keep personal details private
Don't share your home address, workplace or financial information until you know someone well. LAX-Chat keeps phone numbers hidden on calls.
Trust your instincts
If something feels wrong, it's fine to leave, end a call or stop replying. You never owe anyone an explanation.
Report anything worrying
Use the Report button in any conversation, say "report" on a LAX-Chat call, or contact us. Reports are read by people, and accounts that break our rules are removed.
Report illegal content
Anyone can report illegal content on HeartWise, with or without an account, using the contact page and choosing "Reporting illegal content". We act quickly, tell you what we decided, and explain any decision to remove a profile.
In an emergency
If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services first.
